Liposuction

Liposuction/Liposculpture is a cosmetic surgical procedure which removes fat from various body areas including the neck, chest, male breasts, love handles, back, arms, abdomen, waist, thighs, knees, and buttocks. With the advent of the tumescent technique in the late 1980's, the side effects and risks of general anesthesia are eliminated and discomfort, bruising, and blood loss are minimal. There are virtually no serious complications and the procedure is relatively simple. Small incisions are made near the fat bulge, local anesthesia is infused into the fat, and a very small cannula(hollow tube) connected to a suction apparatus is inserted. Excess fat is then removed. The tiny incisions heal very well without requiring sutures.

The recovery time varies with the number of areas treated and the type of activity the patient intends to resume. After the procedure, patients are alert and most patients are able to perform routine duties after two days, but in some cases five or six days may be necessary.
