Fraxel™ Laser

before after
Fraxel™ Laser for resurfacing of wrinkles, scars, brown spots due to sun, melasma, and actinic keratoses

Fraxel™ Laser is an erbium-doped fractional resurfacing laser used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, pigmented lesions, including melasma and “age spots” or sun spots. The laser is considered fractional because treatment leaves areas of untouched skin to promote more rapid healing. The Fraxel™ Laser targets 20-25% of the skin’s surface each treatment. Optimum results require 4-5 treatments, each spaced about one month apart.

A topical anesthetic is applied prior to treatment to minimize discomfort. After a Fraxeltreatment, most patients experience a mild wind-burn, ‘stinging’ sensation for up to 2 hours. Redness, swelling, and mild crusting are normal and usually resolve within 2 ½ to 3 days. Other areas, such as the neck and chest take slightly longer to peel. Most patients have 2 ½ to 3 days of ‘social downtime’. Aftercare includes keeping the skin moisturized and wearing sunscreen.
