Intense Pulsed Light* or IPL is a non-ablative skin rejuvenation procedure that is used to improve facial appearance by reducing/removing brown spots and dilated blood vessels. The face, chest, shoulders, arms, and hands are the most commonly treated areas. Good results are often obtained in one or two treatments, although multiple treatments may be required. The treated areas appear pink like a mild sunburn immediately after the procedure. The brown spots subsequently darken prior to flaking off over the next 1-3 weeks. The face typically heals the fastest with the other areas following soon after.

*IPL is not a laser by the strict definition, but rather a broad band of wavelengths.
